"In Portimao haben wir unsere ersten Schritte in der Weltmeisterschaft gemacht. Ich als Fahrer, aber auch das Team, denn sehr vieles war für uns neu, wie das Motorrad, die Abläufe am Wochenende und auch die Strecke. Nun haben wir dazugelernt und haben viel mehr Anhaltspunkte, als noch vor drei Wochen", erklärt Andreas Kofler vor dem Wochenende.
Der 21-Jährige, der in diesem Jahr seine erste Saison in der Weltmeisterschaft bestreitet, zeigt sich hochmotiviert, war die niederländische Strecke auch in den letzten Jahren immer wieder Ausrichter der Rennen der Internationalen Deutschen Motorrad-Straßenmeisterschaften (IDM). Der Oberösterreicher gewann zwei Rennen in Assen in seiner Karriere schon.
"Ich erwarte für das Wochenende jetzt keine Wunder. Das Niveau in der WM ist hoch, weshalb wir unsere Ergebnisse verbessern wollen aus Portimao und die nächsten Schritte in unserer Entwicklung gehen", blickte er auf das Wochenende voraus.
Andreas Kofler aims to take next steps at World Championships
After Andreas Kofler's debut in the Supersport World Championship, with finishes of 21st and 24th, the Austrian Motorsport Kofler team is now heading into the next round. Assen awaits them not only as a traditional circuit, but also one that the team and its rider are familiar with from recent years.
"We took our first steps in the World Championship in Portimao. Both me as a rider and the team, because so much was new to us, like the motorcycle, the weekend procedures, and the track itself. Now we've learned a lot and have much more information than we did three weeks ago," explains Andreas Kofler ahead of the weekend.
The 21-year-old, who is competing in his first World Championship season this year, is highly motivated, as the Dutch circuit has also hosted races of the International German Motorcycle Road Racing Championship (IDM) several times in recent years. The Upper Austrian has already won two races in Assen in his career.
"I'm not expecting any miracles this weekend. The level at the World Championship is high, which is why we want to improve on our results from Portimao and take the next steps in our development," he said, looking ahead to the weekend.
