Neues Pflaster Balaton-Ring für Andreas Kofler
Ohne Anhaltspunkte wartet das wohl härteste Wochenende
Der vierte Saisonstopp mit den Läufen sieben und acht der Supersport-Weltmeisterschaft wartet an diesem Wochenende in Ungarn auf Andreas Kofler. Der Yamaha-Pilot von Motorsport Kofler ist auf dem 4,075 Kilometer langen Kurs am östlichen Ende des Plattensees in Österreichs Nachbarland noch nie gefahren.
"Weder ich noch mein Crew-Chief Alex Linortner kennen die Strecke aus der Vergangenheit, dementsprechend haben wir auch keine Anhaltspunkte für das Wochenende, was echt eine Herausforderung darstellt", blickte der 21-Jährige auf die anstehenden Rennen voraus. Wichtig wird für den Oberösterreicher deshalb das erste Training.
"Wir wollen uns weiterentwickeln und deswegen wird jede Minute auf der Strecke wichtig für mich. Schon bei unseren ersten Wochenenden in Portimao und zuletzt in Assen stand die Entwicklung vom Freitag bis auf den Sonntag im Vordergrund, wo wir jeden Tag einen Schritt nach vorne gemacht haben. Das ist jetzt auf einer völlig neuen Strecke für uns auch wichtig", erklärte er.
Stück für Stück will er sich in der stark besetzten WM-Serie nach vorne bringen. Jene Teams und Fahrer, die im Vorjahr schon in der Weltmeisterschaft den Kurs kennengelernt haben, sind dadurch stark im Vorteil. "Aktuell schauen wir aber auf uns und unseren Fortschritt. Es war ein großer Sprung für mich, aber auch für das Team mit dem Einstieg in die WM heuer. Nun heißt es sich weiter zu etablieren", meinte Kofler.
Nachdem am Freitag nur ein Freies Training vor der Superpole angesetzt ist, muss er den neuen Kurs schnell lernen, ehe schon um die Startaufstellung für die beiden Rennen am Samstag und am Sonntag gekämpft wird. "Es wartet das vielleicht härteste Wochenende des Jahres auf mich, aber ich bin sehr positiv und freue mich auf meinen Einsatz", so der junge Österreicher, der in den letzten beiden Jahre die Internationale Deutsche Motorrad-Straßenmeisterschaft (IDM) auf Yamaha mit dem Team Motorsport Kofler gewinnen konnte.

The fourth round of the Supersport World Championship, featuring races seven and eight, awaits Andreas Kofler this weekend in Hungary. The Yamaha rider from Motorsport Kofler has never raced on the 4.075-kilometer circuit at the eastern end of Lake Balaton in Austria's neighboring country.
"Neither myself or my crew chief Alex Linortner know the track from previous races, so we have no point of reference for the weekend, which presents a real challenge," the 21-year-old said, looking ahead to the upcoming races. The first practice session will therefore be crucial for the Austrian.
"We want to continue developing and that's why every minute on the track is important for me. Even at our first weekends in Portimao and most recently in Assen, the focus was on development from Friday to Sunday, where we made progress every day. That's also important for us now on a completely new track," he explained.
He aims to work his way up the ranks in the highly competitive World Championship series step by step. Those teams and riders who already experienced the circuit in last year's World Championship have a significant advantage. "Right now, though, we're focusing on ourselves and our progress. Entering the World Championship this year was a big step for me, but also for the team. Now it's about establishing ourselves," said Kofler.
With only one free practice session scheduled before Superpole on Friday, he needs to quickly learn the new track before the battle for starting positions for the two races on Saturday and Sunday begins. "Perhaps the toughest weekend of the year awaits me, but I'm very positive and looking forward to competing," said the young Austrian, who won the International German Motorcycle Road Racing Championship (IDM) on a Yamaha with Team Motorsport Kofler for the last two years.
